Saturday 27th January 1934
When Blackpool visited Stoke City for an FA Cup fourth round tie there was just 13 minutes remaining with Pool trailing one goal to nil when Smailes ran onto a Thomson cross and crashed the ball into the net for what was believed to be the equaliser until the referee ruled that Smailes was offside. Despite heated protests the referee refused to consult the linesman and although Blackpool got back to their game it came as no surprise when Stoke scored twice to make the score a flattering 3-0. The after match verdict was “thirteen minutes! Its sufficient to make any team imagine that there is something in that ‘13’ bogey after all”
Monday 27th January 1969
The chairman of the Blackpool F.C. Development Association Alderman Albert Stuart, J.P., announced at the Supporters’ Club annual dinner and dance in the Spanish and Balmoral Halls that the block of offices occupied by the manager Mr. Stanley Mortensen, his assistant-manager, Mr. Harry Johnston, and the club secretary Mr. Desmond McBain was to be moved “lock, stock and barrel” from beneath the West Stand to a location underneath the South Stand. As a result, the way would be open for work to commence on a new West Stand whenever the progressive plan got the go-ahead.
Saturday 27th January 2007
Blackpool booked their place in the FA Cup fifth round draw for the first time in 17 years after holding 10-man Norwich City from the Championship 1-1 in front of 9,491 at Bloomfield Road. Ian Evatt’s equaliser after 52 minutes came after Darren Huckerby had given City the lead in first half injury time.
