Saturday 8th January 1955
When York City of the Third Division North played First Division Blackpool in the F.A. Cup third round at Bloomfield Road over 7,000 came down from York to see if their side could perform the unlikely giant-killing act. Blackpool, winners of the Cup just 18 months previously went behind in the 38th minute when Storey hit a cross-cum shot which deceived Farm and rolled into the net. On 70 minutes the unthinkable happened and York went 2-0 in front with a fine goal by Fenton whose shot was placed well wide of Farm. A late Jimmy Kelly penalty was punched over the bar and Blackpool were vanquished at the final whistle. City created history by becoming the first 3rd Division Club to appear in a semi-final replay losing to Newcastle United at Roker Park.
Tuesday 8th January 2008
Stephen McPhee a Glasgow-born forward was signed by Blackpool on 8 January from Hull City for a fee of £215,000 (that could rise to £300,000 depending on number of games and Blackpool’s performances). He made his League debut for Blackpool as a 59th-minute substitute for Scott Vernon against Charlton Athletic on 12 January 2008 and scored his first League goal for Blackpool in a 5-3 victory over Charlton Athletic on 23 February 2008.
