Ollie underlines Adam importance and guns for Reds

Scotland international Adam was one of the stars of Blackpool's unexpected rise to the top flight and remains a key component of the midfield.

The 25-year-old former Rangers player endured a frustrating afternoon on Saturday, however, as he scored a horrendous own goal in a 2-1 Lancashire derby loss to Blackburn at Bloomfield Road.

Holloway said: "He is one of my players who I am very proud of. Charlie is one of that midfield area that pass the ball brilliantly when he is on song."He is one of the players I need to play well every week. I like it when he runs with it, I have never seen midfield players run with it like he can.

He causes all sorts of problems when he does it."But does that make him any more special than anyone else? Not in my book. When he deserves an ice cream I'll give him an ice cream, but I'm not sure he deserves one after just heading one in our net!"

And after going so close to taking something off Rovers, the positive approach they adopted is likely to be redeployed against Roy Hodgson's misfiring Reds at Anfield next Sunday.Holloway said: "Last week (against Chelsea) we got what we deserved - zilch - but this week I felt we deserved at least a point.

But you won't get me disappointed, because of the way my team play."Results won't affect me this year, if I start getting affected by results I might as well pack it in. But performances affect me. The first-half performance last week was wimpy.

"That was my fault because I went defensive and I won't do that again. You wait until Liverpool away, that is all I am going to say."
