wigan2Vaughan injury assessment looks to be worst than first feared.

Blackpool are awaiting news from a specialist on the extent of midfielder David Vaughan's hip injury. The Wales international, 28, picked up the injury in training prior to last Sunday's defeat by Arsenal and will miss this weekend's game with Wigan.

"We're waiting with bated breath to see what the specialist says," Holloway told BBC Radio Lancashire.

"We're waiting to see if we can keep him ticking through or is it more of a risk if we do play him."

Holloway added: "There's a slight muscle tear and we're getting it checked whether he's pulled any of the tendons off the hip or any bone with it."

Vaughan has been praised for consistently outstanding performances in Blackpool's debut season in the Premier League.

He's hardly ever noticed, hardly ever seen but he makes everything around him much more efficient

Blackpool manager Ian Holloway on David Vaughan

"He's been arguably our best player this season," said Holloway.

"Some people won't notice what he does in a game, but we do. And we appreciate what he does because he does it so brilliantly.

"He's hardly ever noticed, hardly ever seen but he makes everything around him much more efficient. Any team would miss what he gives them.

"But it now gives someone else a chance to play. Keith [Southern] came back in at the weekend and he was terrific.

"He's been really unlucky this season because I've overlooked him a fewtimes after being injured. But he was an integral part of our team last seasonso now it gives him a great opportunity to have a go on Saturday."

Campbell- We must stay positive

Blackpool striker DJ Campbell insists the team will not let Sunday's defeat to Arsenal get them down as they head into a trio of games he feels will make or break their season.

Campbell was involved in a moment of controversy in the 3-1 loss when he collided in the box with Jens Lehmann. The ball broke to Gary Taylor-Fletcher, who scored to make it 2-1, but Lehmann escaped punishment when he might have been sent off.

Campbell believes the German goalkeeper "maybe should have walked", but would rather focus upcoming fixtures, and said: "We were not really expecting to get anything from that game (against Arsenal) if we are being honest. We believed that we could beat them, but it is more about Wigan, Newcastle, Stoke - these are the games where it really matters."

He added: "If we had got something out of the Arsenal game, that would have been great, but we didn't and that is in the past now. We've got to move on to the next three home games and I believe that is where we are going to stay up.

"The mood is fine - we weren't really putting ourselves under too much pressure in the Arsenal game."

Campbell, who has nine goals for Blackpool this term, missed the three matches prior to the Arsenal contest through suspension.

The Seasiders have six fixtures remaining as they bid to beat the drop and the 29-year-old knows his return could prove vital.

"I've always felt ready to deliver from the start of the season, so it's no different now," Campbell said. "We are all going to need to chip in and dig in, and obviously with me being a striker, I need to score the goals to keep us in this league, along with the other lads.

"The belief has always been there and I'm sure it always will be.

"We have got six cup finals and four of those are massive games at home, so hopefully with the fans on our side, we can get the two or three wins we need, or maybe even better than that."

Carney out of seasons end.

Blackpool defender David Carney has confirmed he will miss the rest of the season with a shoulder injury.

Carney has failed to feature in the Seasiders' last three games due to the complaint and is now set to undergo surgery in order to put things right.

"I saw the specialist the other day and he just said he recommends that I should get it done," Carney told the club`s official website.

"I was testing it out and it's not good - I think there is a bit of bone damage there, so it just needs fixing and hopefully I will be back for pre-season next year."

Oyston planning Bloomfield expansion

Blackpool chairman Karl Oyston has confirmed plans are in place to increase the capacity of Bloomfield Road to more than 16,500 this summer.

Work is set to take place in the south-east corner of the ground, increasing the number of seats by 500, and will be carried out even if the Seasiders are relegated from the Barclays Premier League.

Oyston told the Blackpool Gazette: "We've had preliminary discussions with planners about the south-east corner. I don't want to say too much until we put the planning application in but hopefully we'll be able to fill that corner in.

"It will look the same as the other corners and give us a net 500 gain in capacity. We'll do it regardless of what happens this season."
