Derby had their chances and remarkably three fell to giant centre back Miles Addison but each time his headers flew over the bar.
Kris Commons worked his socks off for the Rams but often lacked support and when he was substituted late in the second half it was clear Nigel Clough was settling for a draw.
In the first half, Derby shown a refreshing commitment to attack and Addison missed the first of his chances on nine minutes.
The miss seemed to galvanise Blackpool into action with David Vaughan and Charlie Adam pulling the midfield strings.
A flowing three-man move ended with Jason Euell flashing a header narrowly wide from a cross by Neal Eardley, who made his Blackpool debut, on 32 minutes. Good work by Gary Taylor-Fletcher, who shielded the ball well, set up Alex John-Baptiste but he fired over from ten yards.
Derby keeper Stephen Bywater then made a low save from Adam. Then, in first half stoppage time, a powerful run into the box by Adam who revelled in his midfield battle with Robbie Savage, ended with a Gary Taylor-Fletcher shot being blocked by Bywater.
The deadlock continued into the second half and Bywater produced a stunning 63rd minute save from Baptiste's 20 yard drive to foil Holloway's side and secure a point for Clough's side on a tricky away day on the Lancashire coast.
